"Happy, Eating Properly": Minor Abused By Gurugram

According to an activist who first reported the horrific crime, the teenager help was allegedly tortured by Gurugram couple. He claims that the victim is now "smiling" as well as "eating properly".

Yesterday, activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj tweeted a photo of the girl with her mother -- her face was blurred to hide her identity. According to the post, the girl was happy that her mother had arrived in Gurugram to bring her home. Ms. Bhardwaj stated that she had asked the girl to contact her when she gets home. She said that the couple are currently in jail.

Last week, Ms. Bhardwaj posted photographs of the girl and related the horrors she was experiencing far from home. These horrifying photos revealed the marks left by repeated beatings that the girl suffered, allegedly by Manish Kattar (36), and Kamaljeet Kaur (34)

The girl hails from Ranchi, Jharkhand's capital. A placement agency in Gurugram hired her as a domestic worker. The in-charge of this agency filed a police complaint against them alleging that they beat up the girl every day.

According to the complaint, she claims that her husband refused to let her sleep at night and didn't give her food. The complainant stated that her mouth was swollen and that she had injuries all over her body.

According to the FIR, the girl is 17 years old and not 14, as stated by a police officer.

The couple were fired from their jobs after the scandalous incident. The woman's employer, a public relations agency, and the husband's insurance company announced their separation via Twitter.

Both were arrested and charged under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
